How To Enhance Your Inner Growth

How many of us have said “New Year, New Me”, but have no idea where to start? Or are you on your way to inner peace, but need a little boost? Here are 6 mindful tips to find your inner self and grow that beautiful soul inside of you.

1. Meditate

Meditating is all about finding inner peace, while becoming one with yourself. I love meditating, and didn’t think it would help me as much as it did. Since 2015 I have been trying to fit it into my morning routine, meditating after I wake up on my bed for 10 minutes. For beginners it can be difficult to just sit down for 10 minutes and not think of anything, don’t worry I sometimes still have this problem too! Therefore I use an app called Headspace, which takes you through the 10 minutes by subtly telling you what to do and how to relax. It’s so important to start your day with a clear mind, because after that is when all the craziness of this society infiltrates the mind. When you wake up in the morning, start by breathing in and out, taking long breathes, and that about 5 times.

2. Read

Well this is nothing new haha! I can’t even start to hammer into your mind how important it is to READ! Spiritual books, uplifting books, informative books, fiction books! The main important thing to remember when you read these books is to think about what you’ve read, and how to interpret that into your life. It’s about using that information to take action.

Favourite books include:

  • Spiritual book: The Way of The Wizard by Deepak Chopra, in which Merlin explains the 20 spiritual lessons for creating the life you want to the young Arthur. A beautifully told story portraying the relationship between the timeless myth of King Arthur and Merlin the wizard, and explaining to us how the wizard thinks and lives.
  • Uplifting book: Ellen Degeneres’ Seriously…I’m Kidding! I can’t even begin to explain how much I love Ellen Degeneres. It’s such a hilarious book, about well everything, from being a cover girl to the pros and cons of making a pros and cons list! She makes you smile and let’s your mind wander over the strangest things.
  • Informative book: Dale Carnegie’s How To Win Friends and Influence People! Learn the key to communication on a personal and professional level of development, using it in your close relationships as well pitching your business to a group of investors and trying to win them over.

3. Write

We are people, we have many different emotions and thoughts running through our minds everyday, and we sometimes tend to out that to the world! It’s okay, but there’s a better way to deal with all of that, by writing it down with pen and paper, or an online diary like Penzu. Now it’s all about being completely honest with yourself. You’re talking to yourself and only yourself, so pour your emotions, feelings, and thoughts out and be open! You can never fully grow without being honest with yourself, and really writing from the heart! The more you do this, the more progress you’ll see. You’ll be able to read it back and laugh at all those silly thoughts and at times unnecessary emotions you had and how you dealt with them, because that’s the process of growing.

4. Listen

This is one of the hardest steps and one I’m slowly improving on! Listen to your heart and your intuition! Our bodies aren’t just the flesh and bones we learn during biology. We all have a spirit and the physical body is just the appearance. Your soul, whether it may be old or new, it has had it’s own experience and knows the right from the wrong. It’s whether you listen to it and follow your intuition then you will grow. That gut feeling you get when something doesn’t feel right, that’s your spirit telling you something’s wrong, or something’s off, listen to it and trust it. Picture this, every time we choose our minds over our heart, we are pouring a little dust onto our heart. Eventually that pile of dust is going to grow and grow, and the heart becomes more difficult to find. I’m at this stage where I’m digging and digging to the bottom, and am slowly seeing glimpses of that beating heart! It’s not your fault at all! We get taught all this information and experience all these things, we start to think we know everything, but there’s really so much more and only when you listen to your intuition will it take you down that path.

5. Positivity

I’m definitely one for thinking positive all the time, my friends go crazy! But why think negatively when you can find the good in things? Why only go left, when you can also go right? My point is, thinking positive means being in control of your mind and thoughts. We have the power to change our minds within a split second, so why not use it in a positive way! Whenever I miss the metro or train I think to myself, well there’s going to be another one! And when I’m running late and I miss the metro I think to myself, well at least that gives me a little time to rest before I meet that person. The smallest thoughts can make the biggest changes. And of course there will be times when you’re completely pissed at something or someone, but find the courage and ability to turn it around and change it. Honestly, being negative is sooooo tiring, just like ignoring someone! Just be positive and make things clear to yourself. I always think to myself that without the little things I have experienced, I wouldn’t be the person I am today, and I’m happy with who I am right at this very moment, you should think so too.

Acceptance & Appreciation

6. Acceptance & Appreciation

Following up from the last point, this is all about accepting this stage of life you are in at the moment, and appreciating the person you are right now! Without acceptance, we can’t appreciate and thank the universe for the person we are right now! I live strongly by everything happens for a reason and it has been the force behind all my actions and thoughts, as well as my motto keep dreaming and believing! Loving yourself for who you are, and accepting the situation you are in, will only lead you to more greatness and a tighter relationship with oneself.

Inner Growth

May this post be a trigger and an inspiration to show you that all you need to do is stop for a minute and just listen! Breathing in and out when things are heated, and thinking only of the good in situations. I’d love to get to know any of your tips, or even favourite books that have changed your life. How far are you in this stage of your life?

Keep dreaming and believing!
